DC Council Chair Kwame Brown Resigns
Washington, DC Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown is stepping down after being charged with bank fraud.
Brown wrote the DC Council secretary a few hours after the charge was leveled saying his resignation takes effect immediately. Brown says in the letter that he, quote, “made some very serious mistakes in judgment for which I will take full responsibility.”
Brown is due in court today and is expected to plead guilty.
Court documents say in 2006, the council chairman provided Industrial Bank with “falsified documents” overstating his actual income by “tens of thousands of dollars” so he could get a home equity loan and buy a boat.
