Herman Cain Formally Endorses Mitt Romney For President
Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain formally endorsed Mitt Romney for president of the United States Wednesday, telling reporters that he was making the endorsement now “for unity” within conservative circles because “in order to win, we have got to rally around our nominee.”
Cain previously issued an “unconventional endorsement” of “the American people,” followed by a more specific endorsement of one particular American person, Newt Gingrich. Sources reports his new official endorsement of Romney is a bit unconventional, but admirably straightforward:
“I’ve met with him privately and now I’m telling everyone publicly, if Mitt Romney wasn’t your favorite candidate for the Republican nomination, Get Over It! We need unity to take back the White House and the Senate, and keep control of the House of Representatives. Since the beginning of the year, I have been touring the country speaking to all kinds of groups. And this message is resonating not just among Tea Party groups and political candidates, but people of faith, disgruntled Democrats and Republicans alike – and especially college students.”
The capital letters in “Get Over It!” are in the original Cain press release, but I added the boldface, because every Herman Cain statement should have some boldface.
Cain’s statement says he has discussed the “fundamental principles espoused by Tea Party groups and other conservative voices” with the presumptive Republican nominee, and “Gov. Romney gets the big things right – especially recognizing that federal policies are the biggest impediment to American prosperity.”
“This is why I officially endorse Gov. Romney,” Cain explained. “I now call on the millions of Americans who want to end disastrous government policies that compromise our freedom and prosperity to do the same and help Gov. Romney win in November.”
