The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is confirming former NFL star Junior Seau [[ SAY-ow ]] died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The longtime San Diego Chargers linebacker was found dead at his home in Oceanside, just north of San Diego Wednesday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene with a gun discovered nearby. The Medical Examiner has issued a statement confirming the 43-year-old committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest.
The “San Diego Union-Tribune” reports the medical examiner is still waiting for a Seau family decision whether the NFL star’s brain will be donated so it can be studied for repetitive head injuries. The Charger’s chaplain, Shawn Mitchell, says memorial services are still being planned and will reportedly include both a public and private service on May 11th and 12th.
