WhatsApp, a known social messenger owned by Facebook, seems to be making headlines for an interesting reason. The platform has crossed two billion users claimed its CEO – Will Cathcart. While speaking about the same in The Wall Street Journal, the company disclosed the number of users for the first time since two years it took over the app. It came out with a detailed report of this milestone in its blog post. Comparing the users with Facebook users, it is just half of the monthly active users of the latter. He further added saying that the app would further be going to work defending its offer with the encrypted messaging service. That would perhaps align with the statements Facebook seems to have made in 2014 when it was in the process of buying the messaging app that cracked the deal of 19 Billion USD. 

The spokesperson of the company had earlier said that the messaging app would continue to operate as an autonomous company and it would honor the security and privacy of the commitments claimed the letter from the Federal Trade Commission during the time of its merger. However, the previous year, Facebook seemed to embark with its plan to integrate the messaging app with other messaging services like Facebook and Instagram messengers. The FTC seems to have made very much clear to the things it was interested in digging via the earlier acquisitions of the top IT companies and learning the way it has emboldened those firms. This has come as the new research study, which seemed to have come as the unreported small acquisitions by Facebook.

Now, the FTC is separately seen carrying out with the probe the company is carrying out being anti-competitive when the investigators are seen looking into acquisitions of WhatsApp by Facebook along with Instagram claimed the earlier Journal report. Now, one could see Facebook is planning to embark upon with newly integrated services with the end-to-end encryption for better security and privacy. However, this has somewhere even raised concerns for law enforcement claims William Barr the U.S. Attorney General. He fears that the company is not doing enough to shield the criminals. Barr was seen asking the social media giant to postpone the plan for its encryption and find out the ways to offer the “lawful access” to law enforcement, which is meant to detect the crimes including child exploitation.
