As per the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Google is alleged to pose discrimination against a pregnant employee. The lady called Chelsey Glasson, who worked as an user experience researcher at Alphabet the parent company of Google for five years, had jotted down an internal memo going viral last summer. She wrote that she would not return after her Maternity Leave and then gave the reason indicating that she faced too much of a supervisor that used to make discriminatory remarks for going pregnant. She further alleged that the company had to face lower ratings and even denial to get the leadership role in the company.
While talking to the media last December, the HR Department of Google did not even care to pay any heed on her complaint, and forget about hiring any lawyer to investigate the matter. She said that she was not interviewed by the HR department as they found her claims to be tainted. When Google was asked to comment on the matter, the company officials chose not to comment. The executive was seen filing the complaints with the commission previous year presenting all the details leading to the inquiry set against the company. As per the EEOC complaint last Jan, the company claimed that it did not find such discrimination due to the insufficient headcount.
Now, the agency was seen passing the case to the table of EEOC and now its investigation department would be taking care about the same. Thus the company now has faced some latest case of investigation that further faces a couple of investigations from the federal agencies as the complaints by the said company. The media has earlier reports that the US National Labor Relations Board has now kicked off the investigation into Google after it was seen firing four employees. That later came in a month’s time after the company was seen reaching out for the labor settlement with the agency. Last summer, the company was seen settling action against the age discrimination lawsuit, which further claimed to give away $11 million.
One the other side, EEOC was seen denying to comment on the same saying that the federal law has kept the complaints that were made to the EEOC often are seen to be kept confidential for protocol reasons. Thus they claimed that they are not in the position to comment on the case or furnish any information on them. On the other side, the tech giant seemed mute on this topic hinting that something fishy in this case. So, its just wait and watch!
