Internet Getting Massive Strain Due to COVID 19 Outbreak

With daily life getting hampered a lot by the lockdown due to the spread of COVID 19, it is evitable to see the internet getting a huge surge thus adding worries over the infrastructure and resilience that keeps things moving. As the virus is spreading with a huge amount of pace in many of the nations including US, UK, Italy and even reaching to India and other Asian nations, there seems to be a complete lockdown forcing people to stay at home and work while kids going to schools too are stranded. In the UK, we see the internet service providers boosting up the broadband usage to the next level calling it to cater the highest amount of data.

As [er reports, there has been a surge of 60 percent when compared to the normal weekdays claimed by the Vodafone officials, while the mobile data traffic seems to have gone up by 50 percent in some of the markets. This has boosted up the overall usage of the internet claims the Chief technologist at CISCO called Chintan Patel based in the UK. He claimed that they are facing a tough time ahead to cater the data supply. Now, the operators claim that the streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and others like Disney Plus too seemed to have reduced their bandwidth utilization for slashing down the picture quality for preventing the network congestion.

As per experts, people are simply busy streaming a wide range of web series, movies and other stuff which seems to have boosted up to ten hours on a daily basis. However, for people like Patel, the network providers are ready to cope up the demand reaching to the peak when it comes to the web traffic. The Internet has always remained a living and breathing thing for human beings, claimed Patel, while for the current time, it has different neurons and connections points that are seen working to keep things alive. However, the concern is more about the kind of strain one has placed over the web by data intensive apps including streaming content and video conferencing.

On the other side, EU’s commissioner for internal market and services, Mr. Thierry Breton has put an appeal to all the streaming platforms to slash down the video quality to avoid the overload. Hence as far as the management is concerned, the digital platforms like Amazon, Google and Netflix seemed to have paid heed towards the same while Sony on the other side claimed that it will reduce the download speed for its games in Europe for managing the level of traffic. When asked by most of the internet providers, a majority of players involved in it claim that they can offer the users the required level of bandwidth and speed to access the internet and hence can be easily seen coping up with the rise in the demand in the coming time as well. Lets see how things would move but at the moment things are rosy for the internet service providers in UK and Europe as well.
