The ecommerce giant Amazon seems to be making news in the media for the past few days. All because of the unprecedented demand for the same amid the coronavirus pandemic catapults, which the company seems to have seen with an unprecedented spotlight. This time the Amazon is back in the news for having its stock reaching all time. As per reports, the trade stock seems to have gone around 2242 USD this Tuesday morning up to 3 percent from the previous close. Amazon was last seen reaching the all-time high in Feb 2020 while it did close at $2,170.22 per share. The company’s market cap is now more than $1.1 trillion.
The COVID -19 crisis seems to have kept people at home thus relying on online stores like Amazon is pretty inevitable in place to fight the virus having the company taking a unique position to deliver the goods to people all over the world who cannot or will not go to shop in the physical stores. Amazon was seen saying that it would hire now 175,000 additional people in the warehouse to deliver the stuff amidst the growing demand. Once the outbreak with the virus settles down to normalcy, Amazon would be retaining the customers whose loyalty is gained during this outbreak. The conditions now have put many people in the US in a position only to depend upon the e commerce giant to deliver their basic stuff at home.
The experts feel it would take another two months to settle down the crisis for people who feel comfortable returning in big numbers including the grocery stores and the malls. But with the higher demand, it has also gained the criticism for the company. The warehouse of Amazon workers are seen protecting the conditions at different facilities along with the required amount of security against the virus. Amazon seems to have fired one protest organiser form the company as well. It claimed that worker was trying to break the norms as set by the company like disobeying the social distancing guidelines too often and thus has even refused to stay in the quarantine once coming in touch with a person tested positive for the virus.
Chris Smalls, the protester who was seen in the statement claiming that Amazon would fire the workers rather than face the total failure to keep their families and others safe. As per the latest reports published in The Washington Post, the company has fired two more workers who seemed to be outspoken about the company and seemed to have told the company that due to the repeated violations seen in the internal policies, Amazon was seen catching up the eye over the policy makers along with the law enforcement officials as seen over its moderation coming due to the third-party sellers which is seen seeking to exploit the crisis with the help of the higher costs. Even the state authorities are seen calling up Amazon to avoid inflating the cost of the stuff they sell during the crisis.
