In the fast changing climate, the very first thing that hampers in our mortal world is our environment and nature. This has given its impact far and wide. One can even feel the same in the faraway lands at Greenland as well where the lakes are facing the wrath of climate change. Yes you heard it right as there is an instant fracturing and draining of the lake over the Greenland ice sheet, which seems to have come with a phenomenon that has now become frequent due to the outcome of climate change.

Usually the ice sheet is recorded to be a km thick, while during the summer time, it is normal for someone in the surface to melt the same and thus form hundreds and thousands of lakes. There are many lakes drain one can find within few hours that end up developing the big openings at the base of the ice that goes up to one km deep. Meltwater from the surface stream is seen continuing to flow in the downward direction for resting the melt season and thus creating the biggest waterfalls in the world claims the experts.

This very process has often been a tough experience to observe firsthand. However, a group of glaciologists based at the Scott Polar Institute at the reputed institute called the University of Cambridge were fortunate enough to work on this and they were able to reach out at the Store Glacier over the northwest Greenland in July 2018. Just a few days after their arrival, in just five hours, we have seen two thirds of the lakes passing through the rough patch carrying five million liters of water getting disappeared altogether getting from the surface through a fracture.

With the help of the aerial photography that was carried out by the high end drone cameras, the experts were able to find out the before and the after dark blue oval shrink that seemed becoming smaller, shallower getting the shape of circle with light blue. With the help of some on board GPS system, the team is now able to find out the stitch all together with loads of photos that were seen creating some detailed 3D reconstructions of the surface of the ice sheet. This is just the start as we are more big things to see in the coming times when it comes to checking the impact on nature with the changing climate.
