A Man Lost Huge Money in a Facebook Scam

The online scams have become the part and parcel of modern-day consumers. It has taken a rise in the last few years. All thanks to the cyber crooks who have become more smart and skilled that leave no stone unturned to keep things moving. In the recent incident when Facebook turned the reason of losing money for a man based in Thane near Bombay was taken for a ride. He was duped with around 1 Lakh amount. He got a call from a consumer who wanted to pay via Google Pay or PayTm. Once he made the transaction, instead of getting the money, the seller was seen sending out his money on the contrary.

Yes, you heard it right, this is what has happened. Well, let’s check how things have happened. A man from Bombay was seen posting an ad on his Facebook business face about a furniture he was keen on selling out. He then set the target audience and then was seen calling up the person along with asking about the product. Without even trying to do any bargain, he was quick to accept the cost and asked the seller if he can pay via PayTm or G Pay. The fact of the matter is he only insisted on paying through the UPI Methods like Google Pay or Paytm. Once the seller agreed about it, he was excited about selling the product on his desired cost. However, as he was expecting the money, he simply ended up receiving the same amount from his account.

Unknowingly, the victim gave him the OTP which came on his phone that led the money transfer taking place ending up losing the payment from his account. The scammer later gave an apology for this mistake and informed the seller that he is refunding the money immediately. Once again the seller trusted him and again asked the man to share the OTP, which led yet another money transfer to his own account. With the help of this method, we saw the scammer losing around 1 lakhs from his account and he never got any refund thus was taken for a ride for not a single fault of his. If you want to stay away from such scams, it is often recommended to stay away from sharing the OTPs with anyone. Always remember one thumb rule, sending money would need an OTP, while receiving you will not.
