Facebook Claims to Reduce political ads for its users

When Obama won his elections the second time with his change slogan, many claimed that the social media giant, Facebook helped him to win the US elections. However, it denied its role in the most happening elections in the world. Since then the company has been alleged for its role in giving space to political people and parties as a platform to propagate their ideas to their target audience. However, as per the lates, the company now plans to reduce the number of political ads on its pages and platforms. As the US prepares for the upcoming US presidential elections, this decision from Facebook seems significant.

The company is seen with slew of updates on this where it intends to boost up the boosting the transparency all over the ads. The news has come on the Facebook pages that is seen with political scrutiny after the Microblogging site called Twitter was seen implementing the same with an outright ban over the political ads. Google was seen limited to the extent to which we see the political groups now targeting the users with paid posts. As it starts this summer, we see Facebook adding up the new control that will help the people to see limited political ads on both Facebook and Instagram.

It was Rob Leathern, director product management of the company announced the same on his recent published blog post. This feature would further going to help in controlling the Ad Preferences that we have seen releasing the same in the recent past that has allowed people to see limited ads over certain topics and then remove the interest. As per reports, the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg was seen defending earlier the policy of FB on political ads. Now, with the recent blog post coming to the fore, it would be interesting to see what comes next. Although we have seen several politicians and campaigners earlier lambasting the platform for allowing the free flow of fake news and disinformation coming in the form of ad from President Donald Trump.

On the other side, we have now the update that Facebook now plans not to carry out the fact-check political ads that are seen intervening with the free speech in the domain of politics. On the other side, Twitter has seen blocking all the political ads over Google that has seen choosing to limit the amount of ads on politics coming online. We are seen choosing to expand the transparency along with adding more control over the people when we talk about the political ads. The experts feel that the decisions about putting the political ads by private players like social media companies including Facebook or Twitter is not justified.
